The Heights Community Engagement Workgroups

The City’s Master Plan is approved and it’s our job to bring this plan to life. During this time, we will work with community members to gather feedback that will guide development decisions. To accomplish this goal, we will host a number of topic-specific workshops with residents from both Saint Paul and Maplewood.

Public Art

In Spring 2023, Forecast Public Art led the Public Art Workgroup. Through this process, the group focused on identifying the stories that are important to the neighborhood (past, present, and future) and how public art could best be used to tell these stories.

Outdoor Spaces

Throughout the fall of 2023, the Outdoor Spaces Workgroup focused on a community priorities for the outdoor spaces coming to The Heights. These discussions focused on the areas controlled by the Saint Paul Port Authority, which does not include the 5-acre City park.

Housing

The Housing Workgroup met on Thursday evenings throughout the summer of 2022. In these meetings, they collaborated with the Port Authority team on the housing needs at The Heights.

Urban Design

The Urban Design Workgroup met every other Thursday January through May, 2022. In these meetings, they collaborated with the Port Team about the design framework as it relates to streets, blocks, lots, and buildings. Following these meetings, videos, meeting minutes, and workgroup recommendations were posted online.

Sustainability

The Sustainability Workgroup met once per month January through May, 2022, to provide guidance carbon-free strategies for The Heights. Following these meetings, videos, meeting minutes, and workgroup recommendations were posted online.
