Job Overview
Operate various machine tools to manufacture and repair mechanical assemblies
Job Description
The Manual Machinist is responsible for repairing transmission main case housings and differential carrier housings to feed daily production in order to ensure daily production is met. This will include boring, sleeving, welding and tool making.
- Reading and setting a manual Micrometer tool.
- Record all data necessary to produce expected service and/or design results, including sizing and illustrations.
- Use measuring devices and techniques correctly to assure proper sizing.
- Perform milling operations such as drilling, tapping, boring and conventional milling and lathe work, using various engine lathes (e.g., horizontal and vertical mills)
- Understand materials and applications as required.
- Set up and perform tool-post grinding procedures.
- Use various hand-held and stationary power and non-power tools, including but not limited to: band saws, belt sanders, hand grinder, files, etc.
- Lift, tighten, adjust and/or secure heavy objects in order to perform work and/or to observe safety precautions.
- observe all safety procedures and use proper protective gear (especially eye and ear protection).
- Assist other’s in department with skilled or non-skilled duties as directed by supervisor or shop manager.
- Other duties as assigned.
Must be able to work in a fast paced environment, meet deadlines and stand for long periods of time.
Must be able to contribute to continuous improvement techniques to improve output, quality, cost and delivery.
Good work ethic and flexibility to work overtime and shift is a must.
Candidates will be required to work within very close tolerances and be able to work in a production setting to meet on going production quotas.
Job Requirements
Required Skills:
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience as a Manual Machinist in machine shop & job shop work environment—(CNC experience is not applicable).
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and to determine and develop the work scope required in order to meet the technical specification.
- Prior electric motor experience or in a machine shop is helpful and prior work experience, and/or certification, doing mig and tig welding a plus.
- Certification from a Technical school helpful.
