THE PORT AUTHORITY
First established in 1929 by the Minnesota Legislature to manage the Saint Paul Harbor, the Port Authority was granted inland economic development authority in 1955. With its four ports in the Saint Paul Harbor and 17 inland business centers, the Port Authority’s mission is to expand the Saint Paul tax base, serve as a conduit to quality job opportunities, advance sustainable and equitable development, and advocate for river commerce.
THE POSITION
This is an exciting opportunity for students or early-career professionals interested in urban development, public-sector real estate, environmental cleanup, or economic development. Interns will gain hands-on experience with active projects, learn core real estate processes, and contribute to meaningful community-focused initiatives across Saint Paul.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist the Port Authority with ongoing projects related to The Heights development, river terminal management, and grant applications.
- Assist with real estate support, including organizing property documents, maintaining files, and conducting preliminary research on tax data, assessments, and land records.
- Support the development team by maintaining property databases, assisting with GIS mapping tasks, and conducting preliminary research on sites, market trends, and demographics.
- Help collect and organize data related to job creation and project performance.
- Assist with preparing grant application materials and organizing documentation to track deadlines and ensure compliance.
- Support team communication by scheduling meetings, preparing materials, taking notes, and maintaining project records.
- Assist with public engagement efforts, including preparing materials and helping at events.
- Participate in site visits and help document project activities, track tasks, and coordinate with consultants and contractors under staff direction.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in progress in real estate, engineering, public administration, urban planning, construction management, or related fields.
